Smitha Susan Varghese

Smitha Susan Varghese is currently pursuing an MA in South Asian Studies and Intensive Language at SOAS, University of London. She holds a master’s degree in Comparative Literature from the English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad, and worked briefly as a guest lecturer at the Centre for Comparative Literature, University of Hyderabad.

Her work engages with the objectives of and the objections to ideological, strategic, and disciplinary frameworks used to classify and categorise literature. Her research interests span comparative philosophy, philosophy of language, ethics of translation, caste and migration, intersections of caste and Christianity in India, and Dalit autobiographical narratives. Her current research focuses on the Sanskritic influence on the liturgical language of Christian communities in Kerala.

As one of the founding members of CiC, she is motivated to build a supportive community with other early career researchers to help each other navigate an increasingly bewildering academic world.
