Soma Mukherjee

Soma Mukherjee is Assistant Professor of Comparative Literature at the Centre for Comparative Literature, Visva- Bharati, Santiniketan. Her research interests span Indian literatures, the Ramakatha tradition, cross-cultural literary studies, popular literature and culture, and the literatures of Africa. She has edited and co-edited several important volumes, including Comparative Literature: Terms and Concepts (2015) and Tracing Transactions: An Anthology of Critical Essays on India and Southeast Asia (2011). Her scholarly contributions include essays on the Ramayana across Southeast Asia (Classiques Garnier, Paris), M.G. Vassanji’s diaspora narratives (Primus Books), and various topics in world literature, translation, and South Asian cultural histories. She has also translated the poetry of Jayanta Mahapatra, Dilip Chitre, and Meena Kandasamy.​​
